Following paintings from Rembrandt and Chardin, visitors will now be able to see Verrocchio’s Tobias and the Angel when it is hosted as part of the National Gallery’s Masterpiece tour in March. The oil painting from the renowned 15th century master shows the archangel Raphael guiding Tobias and his dog through the countryside, to collect a debt owed to his blind father, Tobit. Tobias carries a gutted fish, while Raphael shows him a box containing its organs – ingredients to cure Tobit’s blindness. The Beacon Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday. Critically acclaimed chamber-folk trio VRi comprise three young Welsh musicians who are pushing the boundaries of their art. In this workshop on Saturday 3 June, alongside music performed live you will hear all about the inspiration behind VRi’s music, as the trio talk about the heritage of their craft, mined from past centuries when traditional music in Wales was suppressed by the Methodist revival and when folk music, along with dancing and drinking, were frowned upon and instruments were hidden under floorboards. The perfect location for you to enjoy stunning scenery and a fully marked course on forest roads and trails. The route is a five mile course at Whinlatter including 1200ft of ascent. It reaches the summit of Seat How along a mix of forest roads and narrower walking trails with stunning scenery across the whole course. Also on offer is a shorter three mile option recommended for those just starting out or looking for an easier run. This equally beautiful route avoids the summit of Seat How and involves just 800ft of ascent. The second half of both routes is identical, allowing all participants to finish together. You will create your own unique linocut print in full colour with this beautiful, accessible medium. Laura has taught for many years and has noticed that everybody , without exception, leaves with a huge sense of achievement , a beautiful print , or usually several , and a big boost , if any were needed, to their creative confidence. You will have the opportunity to learn every step of the process as she shares with you what she knows, as well as the chance to take inspiration from your fellow participants within a small friendly group. Laura Sowerby creates intricate botanical prints and handmade wallpaper in linocut from her picturesque studio in the Langdale Fells. Her work has been featured in Country Living, Gardens Illustrated, Country Homes and Interiors and The English Home magazines and has been shown in galleries both locally and nationally. She is a regular exhibitor at Cumbria’s own Printfest and Great Print Exhibitions . There will be tea/coffee available throughout the workshop, and lunch will be provided. We are holding our Three Peaks Challenge by Rail next year, the twentieth time we will have run this event. By using this form of transport we will be limiting the impact on the environment. This specially chartered train departs from Crewe Station on Thursday 15th June, arriving in Ravenglass on Friday 16th June at 9:00. We will then travel on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway to Dalegarth from where we will walk to Scafell Pike.
