Winner of The Women’s Prize for Playwriting 2020, Amy Trigg’s remarkable debut play Reasons You Should(n’t) Love Me is a hilarious, heart-warming tale about how shit our wonderful lives can be.

For a long time I didn’t know how it’d work.
Or what I’d be able to feel.
People would ask me if I could have sex and I’d feign shock and act wildly offended whilst secretly wanting to grab them by the shoulders and be like “I don’t know, Janet!”

Juno was born with spina bifida and is now clumsily navigating her twenties amidst street healers, love, loneliness – and the feeling of being an unfinished project.

Join us for a week of ghoulish goings on here at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway between Saturday 22nd October- Sunday 30th October! The spookiest season of all is just around the corner and we’ll be running plenty of special activities at the railway to get the whole family in the spirit. With decorated stations and cafés, museum activity and exhibition, a pumpkin competition, double-headed trains, and a line quiz ‘Witch Trail’ with a small prize upon completion, your trip to the railway in October half-term will be jam-packed with frightening fun.

ENTER OUR PUMPKIN COMPETITION Each child bringing a carved pumpkin to the railway will travel free when accompanied by a full paying adult (pre-purchased online child tickets can be refunded upon arrival in the ticket office). If details are left with the pumpkin (which will be displayed and may feature on our social media channels) you will be entered into a competition for the best pumpkin carving. The railway’s creative team will judge this on Sunday 30th October with the lucky winner receiving a free return ticket for a family of four and a sweetie goody bag.

HALLOWEEN FUN AND GAMES Our younger visitors are also invited to take part in a ‘witch-trail’ quiz as they travel up the line. Each witch will reveal a letter and when they are all added to the special sheet provided, a spooky word will be revealed. There will be a small prize for each correctly completed sheet handed in on the day of travel. On the Monday – Friday of this half-term week we can offer the added spectacle of some double header trains (pulled by two steam engines rather than just one). These will feature on the 10:25 departure from Ravenglass to Irton Road with full line returns departing Ravenglass at 11:25 and 13:50. These arrangements are subject to availability and change without notice due to operational reasons.

Terms & Conditions: Pumpkin Carving – all pumpkins left for the judging cannot be returned after competition close. Pumpkin Judging – winners will be notified by email within 48 hours of the judging date 30th October. Free Kids – One free place for each child with a carved pumpkin travelling with a full fare paying adult. Online pre-booked tickets will be refunded on the day of travel. Offer valid from Saturday 22nd October to Sunday 30th October. Please note trains may change to published times without notice due to operational reasons.

    Dark Skies Festival

Join Jo from JAG Outdoors for a night-time walk in the forest! We will cover up to 4 miles and hope for some crisp clear skies and lots of stars to explore at various points along the route. If the stars don’t appear, we will still enjoy a beautiful experience walking through the forest and enjoying the peaceful trails, enhanced sounds, and the “dark” sky scenery.

If we are gifted with stars, as an amateur astronomer, I can help you find the main constellations and using star maps you can work out more, or just enjoy a peaceful moment under the stars.
Well behaved dogs on leads welcome (not appropriate for young puppies due to walk length).

Please come dressed for the weather, while we are hoping for clear skies that will mean cold temperatures! And the Cumbrian weather can also offer many other things. Boots or trail shoes are recommended.

Brother Wolf is proud to present the return of its award-winning solo drama, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, guaranteed to have audiences on the edge of their seats.

Adapted and performed by award-winning actor/writer/producer, James Hyland, this “powerful, intense, spellbinding and disturbing” show (The Yorkshire Times) takes a unique approach to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of civilisation versus savagery, good versus evil.

During his final lecture on the duality of humankind, the respectable Dr Jekyll reveals his strange association with the mysterious Edward Hyde and the shocking truth about his identity: that Hyde, unlike other human beings, is not only fundamentally evil, but also the very definition of it.

Reviewed as “a memorable, compelling and five star piece of theatre” (Everything Theatre), the production has been hailed by critics and audiences alike, winning Best Male Act (Solo Fest 2013).

A box office hit, its success is paralleled by Brother Wolf’s other acclaimed works including A Christmas Carol – As told by Jacob Marley (deceased), the “definitive telling of A Christmas Carol” (Redditch Standard), winner of Best Performer in Theatre (Fringe Report Awards 2012).

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Halloween Week
