Brought to you for the Festival of Archaeology, join ranger Bethany to discover Viking long houses, the bloomery that gives Smithy Beck its name and the monastic vaccary where cattle were managed in the valley hundreds of years ago.
This is a free event and booking is essential. Meet us at Bowness Knott car park, CA23 3AU.
There are no stiles or tight gates on this route, but there are a couple of sections where we will either ascend or descent steeply on uneven ground. Whilst a lot of the route will take place on well-maintained paths, we will be leaving the paths to visit some of the sights which could be uneven and overgrown. 120m total ascent. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes or boots. You may wish to bring a water bottle and a snack.
Suitable for children 12 and up.
