    07-10-23
    CA12 5TW
    Folk-in-the-Forest

A series of folk music sessions with a difference – set in the glorious surroundings of the Whinlatter forest, showcasing local artists and with opportunities to join in yourself. The combined magic of music and nature is an unforgettable experience, and a great way to connect with others through music.

Each evening starts with floor spots, followed by special guests, and we finish the evening with an open session – bring an instrument or a song to share…

If the weather’s favourable, we’ll have the event outdoors on the verandah, so dress warmly! If the weather’s bad, we’ll move indoors to the cafe.

Tickets by donation – suggested amounts £3 – £10. Please pay what you can afford, and help us keep prices low for those facing financial hardship. Tickets at Eventbrite.

Cafe Ambio has a licenced bar and is serving delicious food from 17:00 so enjoy a hearty meal followed by some great entertainment.

This series is delivered in partnership with The Melbreak Communities and Lake District Dark Skies festival.

What is Pay What You Decide?
PWYD is a pricing strategy designed to encourage new audiences to try new work. It requires audiences to book in advance, but voluntarily pay an amount determined by them after the show, based on their experience.

With PWYD, customers can book their place in advance then decide after the show what they think it is worth – therefore removing the risk of paying for something they might not enjoy.

PWYD tackles both affordability and risk, two of the greatest barriers to people attending new work.

    20-10-23
Rosehill Theatre, Whitehaven CA28 6SE, UK
    Viva-Neil-Diamond- Unplugged-2023

Whilst performing in Las Vegas some years ago Bob Drury was described as one of the world’s finest vocal tributes to Neil Diamond and he’s now back touring the UK with his new acoustic-based show celebrating the legendary Neil Diamond and his incredible back catalogue of songs.

By taking some of the songs back to how they were originally written, with just voice and guitar, Bob brings a whole new dimension to the songs, particularly the beautiful guitar ballads that have a genuine depth of emotion when stripped right back.

The show still includes loads of Neil Diamond’s blockbuster hits such as Sweet Caroline, Cracklin’ Rosie, Play Me, Hello Again, Beautiful Noise, Red Red Wine, Forever in Blue Jeans and Song Sung Blue so get those voices ready to sing along! There are also a few lesser known songs that are sure to become your favourites by the end of the show. A fantastic evening guaranteed!

This is Bob’s third visit to Rosehill and we can’t wait to welcome him back. Both previous dates sold out so make sure you get your tickets early to avoid disappointment!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TICKET HOLDERS: We appreciate that with live music events there will be people who wish to dance. We are an all-seated venue and we ask that you be respectful of those around you, particularly if by standing up to dance you then block the view of someone behind. For safety reasons we request that you refrain from dancing in any part of the Circle. We are sorry if this causes disappointment or frustration.

  • Chris Cleverley Live at The Gather
    19:30 -23:00
    21-10-23
Ennerdale Bridge, Cleator CA23 3AR, UK
    Chris-Cleverley-Live-at- The-Gather

Dream-folk songwriter Chris Cleverley is among a new wave of pioneering artists carving an uncharted path through the UK acoustic landscape, with endorsements from The Times, The Telegraph and BBC 6 Music.

With a visceral lyrical style, inspired by the Lo-FI American greats Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens & Conor Oberst, his ambient Dream-Folk songwriting pushes the boundaries of 21st Century acoustic-led music. As a student of Nic Jones and Joni Mitchell records, his blistering guitar technique is infused with the hazy, dreamlike essence of the 60s Folk Revival, while ambient synth-laden production fuels his reputation as a true innovator of the UK songwriting scene. With songs covering diverse contemporary themes from displaced people to pervasive artificial intelligence, his music sits unashamedly on the cutting edge, while always remaining highly relatable.

His 2022 career-defining album ‘Broadcast The Secret Verse’ released to an avalanche of praise with RnR calling it “A masterpiece – ★★★★” and Americana UK describing it as “One of the best albums of 2022 – 9/10”. As the songs have evolved further, 2023 sees Cleverley take this new body of work back out on the road, from the vast urban sprawl of London to the serene quiet of the inner Hebrides. From pindrop silence to rapturous applause his dynamic live performance is renowned for commanding the full spectrum of emotions. With dexterous musicianship, challenging insight, meditative calm and warm humour, Chris Cleverley brings his solo acoustic set to The Gather in Ennerdale This Autumn.

“Rather Lovely Electro-Folk” – Radcliffe & Maconie BBC 6 Music
“The feel of Sufjan Stevens & Elliott Smith” ★★★★ – Scottish Daily Express
“Frighteningly brilliant works” – The Daily Star

Theatre: The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

What does it mean to sit between this world and that at the drop of a hat?

The Hatter and the Hare are stuck. They can’t move on.

Trapped by self delusion and memory loss, they remain at 6 o’clock, forever drinking tea. The Hatter embraces it. The Hare rejects it. But who is to blame for this never-ending party? Take a trip down the proverbial rabbit hole with Brother Wolf’s groundbreaking adaptation of one of the most beloved stories of all time.

Fantastical and utterly bonkers, The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party is a mind-bending new twist on Lewis Carroll’s immortal classic. So grab your seat at The Hatter’s table and get ready for the weirdest and wildest party this side of Wonderland!

Based on Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
Adapted, Produced and Directed by James Hyland
Costumes by A Child Of The Jago
    Music by Chris Warner
    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, based on the book Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, has been excellently adapted by James Hyland who not only produced and directed the play but incidentally plays the fun, crazed, eccentric Mad Hatter better than Johnny Depp any day of the week. Michael Shon plays the lovable March Hare with a gruff cockney accent and insane mannerisms that come together very well for his character. A Child Of The Jago have outdone themselves yet again on the fabulous costumes that sum up this production as entertaining, fun and full of laughs and a great play to go and see with the kids or simply on your own. I loved it.
